Numerous requests from parents for a caring and nurturing centre for their children prior to entry to the College’s Prep year, saw the vision of our Early Learning Centre adjacent to Queensland Independent College. Parents desired a facility based on the College’s philosophy of caring for each child as an individual, working closely with parents to provide a balanced program of care, and first class education at appropriate developmental levels.
Q.I.C ELC caters for children from 6 weeks to five years and is run by the Centre Director, with oversight by the College Principal. The Centre has full accreditation and meets all standards required under state and national guidelines. This means that parents can receive financial assistance through the Commonwealth Government.
Set on a peaceful site, located in the beautiful suburb of Merrimac, Q.I.C Early Learning Centre will be a market leader in child care. The Centre is brand new and well-resourced. All rooms are air-conditioned and a full range of developmentally appropriate programs and materials are available to carers and children.
The centre offers you and your child a natural setting in which they will be nurtured, loved and educated. The centre will feature spacious classrooms, high quality resources, open and natural outdoor play spaces, and extra-curricular activities to further enhance children’s gross and fine motor skills will also be offered. Our programs of education are relevant and current and our staff are highly qualified and experienced.
At Q.I.C ELC we focus on the provision of a nurturing and friendly environment to assist in scaffolding foundation skills for our young learners. Part of that strategy is engagement with our wider community, specifically Queensland Independent College. We believe that participation in a shared environment extends the social, recreational and general well-being of our community.
The programs at the upper level in the Centre are linked directly to the College’s Prep and literacy/numeracy programs through partnership between the Centre Director and the College’s Principal. Centre carers liaise with Q.I.C Prep and vice versa, so movement from one level to the other is as smooth as possible in the transition.
Points of differentiation:
- Montessori inspired.
- Emphasis on learning styles and educative structure.
- Seamless transition ensuring school readiness to Queensland Independent College.
- Direct communication between educators at the ELC and Prep ensures all developmental and/or learning challenges are identified in advance of Prep year and addressed promptly.
- Combined events with the College – younger children are able to interact with students and integrate as part of the larger community.
Our fully trained staff maintain a warm and nurturing environment, where families can feel confident in sharing the supervision and care of their child. The highest standards of cleanliness and safety are observed at all times.
We pride ourselves on employing fully qualified staff with significant experience in the early childhood industry. All our educators hold the required qualifications as per the Child Care Regulations. In addition all of our employees are fully trained in First Aid and Resuscitation and this training is updated regularly.
In each room we have a comprehensive, developmental program for the children. These programs are based on observations that have been taken from the children and then from these observations an activity is planned to extend on each child’s development needs. This is so individual children can learn special skills according to their own needs and interest as well as doing activities and learning skills suitable to the whole group. Q.I.C Early Learning Centre Early Learning Centre also places an importance on child initiated activities and the importance of play within the early childhood environment.
We utilise a specifically designed program that caters to the individual needs of all children and allows for a more personalised approach to learning. Supported in a nurturing environment, the program fosters development in all areas your child.
As the first five years of a child’s life are a time when the foundations for future learning and development occur, we optimise this time to gently nurture and encourage children’s development via programs that are stimulating and extremely enjoyable for the children in attendance. The program enhances your child’s socialization skills, confidence and self-esteem, whilst all other areas of developed are concurrently enhanced through utilization of specific equipment, resources and programming.
This in turn ensures that when they reach school age they have acquired over and above the necessary foundations necessary for successful academic and social learning.
Through our program children:
- Learn to represent their ideas in a variety of forms – sharing their thoughts; constructing; painting; building; drawing and taking on roles.
- Develop social skills – communicating; caring; negotiating; co-operating; sharing; engaging with others’ perspectives as they negotiate roles and problem solve.
- Build foundations for early literacy and numeracy through the use of the specialised equipment and various self-selection activities.
- Access and apply prior knowledge through exploration and re-creation of familiar events.
- Acquire new knowledge about themselves and their world as they play and interact with others.
- Develop imagination – using flexible and creative thinking in adapting to situations and finding effective solutions to challenges.
- Experiment and make new discoveries in a non-threatening space.
- Are able to work at their own pace and at their own level.
Application for Entry
Early registration is essential at the Early Childhood Centre and also at the College. If parents intend to enrol a child into the College Prep year, a separate application must be made directly with the College at least twelve months prior to entry. Longer lead time is preferable, as places at the College are also limited.
Child Care Benefit:
Child care benefit is available at our centre if you are eligible which is designed to help you with the cost of your childcare fees. The percentage of benefit entitlement is based on an income assessment of your family circumstances. You will need to call the Family Assistance Office on 13 61 50 for information regarding eligibility. You will need to provide the centre with your family CRN, your child/ren’s CRN and the date of birth of the parent that is linked to these CRN’s, before your child commences care with us.
Until the centre receives this information, you will be required to pay full fees. This does not form part of your bond; bond must be paid in full separately. The CRN numbers are imperative and may take some time to receive. If you are enrolling your child into Q.I.C Early Learning Centre, please contact Centrelink immediately to get the process started. Even if you are not looking at claiming any rebate at this point in time, it is still important that you have a CRN on hand should your circumstances change.
Once you have made the decision to enrol your child at our centre, an initial visit will be organised with the Director for orientation purposes. On this visit, you will be given a guided tour of the centre’s facility and introduced to the relevant educators. You will be guided through your child’s classroom, discussing routine procedures as well as communication practices. This visit will also be the time that the Director will discuss the ‘Parent/Guardian Handbook’ handbook with you, and provide you with other enrolment documents for completion.
Visits prior to attending:
Placing your child in the care of others is a big decision and as a parent/guardian you need to feel confident that your children are being cared for in a safe, nurturing environment. To encourage this confidence and to provide opportunity for the families to familiarise themselves with the centre before their commencement date, here at Q.I.C Early Learning Centre we promote pre-attendance visits. Possibly once or twice before your child starts, you might like to visit the centre for a couple of hours, to enable your child to explore the environment whilst you are still in close vicinity, as well as providing you with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of room structure and routine. These visits also allow the educators to get to know your child better before they start, and provide time for you to have informal chats with the educators about your child as well as the programs.
Our door is always open
Parents and families are welcome at any time to join in the fun at Q.I.C Early Learning Centre. We have various excursions, events and family nights throughout the year and families are invited to participate with their child/ren as much as they can.
Thank you for your inquiry and we look forward to welcoming you and your child to Q.I.C Early Learning Centre Early Learning Centre. By working together, families and staff can help each child develop to their full potential.
